FAQ /

    • What are the environmental certifications and labels ?

Find out about eco-certifications by downloading the chart.

    • What is « wood-free » paper ?

Wood free doesn’t mean that a paper is made without using wood. The term actually refers to the refining of virgin wood fibre. These papers contain little or no mechanically ground fibres, eliminating lignin, the visible particles and natural substances that cause the paper to yellow with age.

    • What do ECF and TCF mean ?

ECF means Elemental Chlorine Free, TCF means Totally Chlorine Free. In the past, bleaching paper pulp with chlorine produced large amounts of organochlorine compounds, including dioxins. Today, dioxin release has been cut dramatically by replacing some or all of the chlorine with chlorine dioxide. Progress has been made and ECF pulping now accounts for 75% of bleached pulp globally.

All Arjowiggins Creative Papers are ECF

No. Deinking recycled fibres uses only water, black soap and hydrogen peroxide.

    • Is it better to choose FSC certified paper or recycled paper ?

The recycling process saves precious water and energy, as compared with paper manufacture from virgin wood fibre. But recycled paper has lower technical properties, its printability, stiffness and resistance. As a result, when choosing recycled grades, it’s important to look for a premium quality. Our recycled grades are of top quality only. They’re made with premium pulp selected and processed specifically for Arjowiggins. To ensure a high-quality recycled pulp, paper can be recycled only 4 to 5 times. So sustainabilty can only be achieved by using both FSC certified virgin fibre paper and recycled. The final choice between FSC and recycled papers depends on the needs of a given communication. All our Arjowiggins Papers are FSC certified. OUr recycled grades are made from high quality Post-consumer pulp only.

We buy FSC certified pulp because we believe only sustainable pulp should be used to make paper.
