FIAC Bookmark 2014 – The Bakery x Generation Press x Arjowiggins
FIAC is an annual contemporary arts fair which takes place at the Grand Palais in Paris and runs for four days during October. As a longstanding partner, we support the event by providing material for FIAC’s catalogue and event guides. This year, we work on a distinctive bookmark designed by Moscow-based studio The Bakery and printed by Generation Press (UK) on our Curious Matter papers’ range;
The Bakery describe their treatment as an exploration of the basic function of a bookmark, its ability to highlight the tactile qualities of paper and as a celebration of the simple joys of something analog in a world obsessed with digital. At its most fundamental level, it is a beautifully crafted piece, both in its digital design and in its print production.
The Bakery treated the bookmark as a stone cut. The front is left almost untouched with just logo and text embossed — a reference to untreated mineral — to show the sensation of the stock. The back is hot-foiled to achieve the look and feel of a precious stone section. The resulting design looks very eye-catching and luxurious. It is not just beautiful but functional as shows how materials apply to the paper and the effects that can be achieved through use of Curious Matter.
